Minatamis na Saging Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 saba na saging, sliced diagonally or crosswise
  • 5-6 tbsp of butter
  • 1 ½ cup of water
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • drops of calamansi juice

Optional topping:

  • leche flan slices
  • condensed milk
  • cinnamon powder

Cooking instructions:

In a skillet, fry the sliced saba in butter. Remove from the skillet and set aside. In another pan, mix sugar, vanilla, water, and lemon juice. Then add the fried saba. Simmer for 5-8 minutes or until sugar have already caramelized and saba is already tender. Remove from pan when cooked. Chill in the refrigerator for a few minutes.

When serving, you may top it with condensed milk (put as much as you want), slices of leche flan or sprinkle it with cinnamon powder.

Cooking tips:

  • Yet, you may cook a simplified version of minatamis na saging in this way: Mix water, saba and sugar in a pan. Boil in low heat and cook until sugar has caramelized. Serve hot or chilled.
  • Instead of frying the saba in butter, you may use oil instead.
