Day Out at York Raceway Drag Racing Strip
May 29, 2014
So I finally popped my drag racing spectator cherry this last bank holiday weekend. Over the last year drag racing has really pricked my interest, I have an inkling it has something to do with all the American car restoration programs that seem to be on TV recently.
I’ve been to see various types of racing in the past at Croft and Donington race tracks, mainly to see the BTCC, GT and Rally-X.
I was concerned if it really would be worth the hour and a half drive over to York Raceway, and the £15/PP entrance fee to see a few souped up street cars racing up an old air strip… How wrong was I! It was a petrol heads dream afternoon out, the real deal. American super stock, funny cars and even jet cars… Guess I picked the right event to go to, The Volks Power’s Power Fest. It was loud, fast and the smell of burning rubber and clutches filled the air, Perfect!
This has now got me thinking it may be worth an overnight trip down to Santa Pod Raceway to see the FIA European Drag Racing Championship.
Here are a few of the classes we saw that day:
- American Super Stock
- PRO FWD
- Volks Stock
- Super Cup
- Pro ET & Sportsman ET
- UK Power Tour
- Open R.W.Y.B
…and not forgetting:
- Car Crush with Armourgeddon
- Wheelie Truck Show
I can highly recommend a day out here if you are any way inclined towards cars, speed and loud noise.

Here’s the few half decent video and Photos I took on the day:
